One of the longest lasting memes of this decade, the “My mom is kinda homeless” meme started on December 29, 2021, during IShowSpeed’s stream titled “Early Stream!” Speed was hosting a Fortnite event where he would play against fans for money. If they won, they would earn some cash. The stream was meant to be a fun and friendly interaction between the YouTuber and his viewers, but things quickly took a strange turn.

Two players joined the event using the names Pew is Daddy and Acey Daddy. At first, both seemed happy just to meet Speed, but soon the tone changed. Pew began telling Speed that he was going to kill himself and begged to win, claiming his dog was very sick. He kept repeating similar things over and over, sometimes even changing his story. Acey initially defended Speed, but when it was his turn to play, he said the now famous line:

“Please Speed, I need this! My mom is kinda homeless…”

Speed tried not to laugh, but the absurdity of the situation got to him. He closed his mouth tightly and shut his eyes, making a funny strained face that soon became one of the most recognizable gifs and memes of the decade.

After the match, Pew accused Speed of being disrespectful for almost laughing at such a “serious” situation. Speed eventually gave them both money out of sympathy, but later found out they were trolling and asked for it back. The whole incident turned into a legendary internet moment that people still quote and reference today.

Just a few days ago, on October 26, 2025, Speed surprised fans by announcing that he had found Pew and Acey again. He wanted to see how they were doing after all these years. Staying true to their chaotic personalities, they once again brought up their life stories, with Acey saying, “My mom was kinda homeless,” explaining that they now lived in an apartment after previously having what he called “half a house.”

Speed decided to host another wager, this time putting $1,000 on the line for Pew and promising Acey’s mom a house if he lost. Although Speed had been traveling the world and was rusty at Fortnite, he played both of them in a best-of-three match and lost every game. True to his word, he sent Pew the money and told Acey he would help his mom get a house soon.

They ended the stream by recreating the original meme moment and laughing together before playing another game of Fortnite. Compared to the chaotic first encounter, this reunion felt more heartfelt and full of nostalgia, even though Speed’s trademark yelling still made it a hilarious and memorable moment for everyone watching.
