In March 2026, the trailer for the new Spider-Man movie was released to the public as was set to be released on July 31, 2026. Fans, such as me, were eager to watch and analyze the trailer to find out more about what the film will be about. Theories began to pour out from the smallest details, including the discussion of Peter Parker’s turn into a less livelier individual than in his previous films in the franchise.

What We Know From the Previous Film

In the previous movie, Spider-Man: No Way Home, Doctor Strange cast a spell to erase the memories of everyone in existence within Peter Parker's world. Peter sacrificed himself in order to save the multiverse from collapsing. In the final scenes, Peter tries to work up the courage to introduce himself to his girlfriend, MJ, and his best friend, Ned, but inevitably chooses not to in order to protect them and keep them from becoming involved in his dangerous life, just as they did before they had forgotten him. This gave the movie a bittersweet ending and set excitement for what’s to come in the future.

Trailer

The trailer shows the aftermath of the previous movie as he observed MJ and Ned from a distance with looks of longing and loneliness. As clips show him continuing to protect New York City as Spider-Man, it shows his isolation from the result of his forgotten unmasked identity. This clearly shows the more introspective and darker tone that the film will be taking.

When Peter encounters MJ and Ned again in person, he still sees MJ and Ned as close friends. There is also a new character introduced, assumed to be MJ’s new boyfriend in a party scene where Peter observes the two of them being intimate. Other characters that look to be of help to Peter Parker are introduced as well, including Bruce Banner as a university professor and antihero Punisher in a chase sequence with Peter. Supposed villains are featured, such as Scorpion, Boomerang, Tarantula, and The Hand as well.

The most impactful clips are of Peter’s new transformation where he is shown in a web cocoon and with blackened eyes. This reveals the emergence of a new Spider-Man evolution involving organic webs. This makes viewers acknowledge the new turn this franchise is taking with the numerous challenges faced by Spider-Man and mysterious elements.

Fan Theories

The most compelling theories surround Spider-Man’s transformation. With the assumption that he is developing more spider traits such as organic spiderwebs, fans are thinking that he will likely turn into different forms of Spider-Man in the comics such as Man Spider or the Other. The Other Theory seems the most reliable with the comic’s story following Spider-Man being resurrected by a giant spider called the Other in the spiritual realm as he made a deal to embrace his more spider-like abilities rather than human ones. After Peter is reborn and returns to his normal routine, he finds out about his new abilities such as releasing stingers from his wrists and producing organic webbing.

Another theory revolves around the villain in the hoodie, who is only shown from the back with no defining characteristics. Many have theorized that this character is Jean Grey. Jean Grey has telepathic and telekinetic powers which point towards trailer clips of individuals that seem to be mind controlled. Others think this character is more likely to be Typhoid Mary who also has similar abilities to Jean Grey. These people believe this character makes more sense to be here instead of Jean Grey due to her involvement with Daredevil in the MCU.

While people ponder over this character’s identity, several speculate that this character will be played by Sadie Sink. This is due to the fact that she made a huge Marvel movie deal around the same time that Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer was released. She signed a five-film contract with MCU which suggests that she will have a significant role throughout these films, leading fans to believe that she will play a large role in this new Spider-Man movie as a main villain.

Hopefully, this film will live up to the narrative and tone that the trailer portrays as well as reveal the massive character development of Peter Parker after the prior film’s ending. As days countdown closer to the date of release, more fan theories will continue to emerge. Will any of these fan theories prove true or merely stay theories? We won’t know until this film is officially out and I, along with other fans, can’t wait to watch it.
