The most anticipated Triple-A Sony game of the year, Spiderman 2, has officially been released as of October 20th, 2023. Yet again, Insomniac has provided us with another Spiderman game, contributing to their PS4 and PS5 Franchise. Being set to come out 3 years after Miles Morales, Insomniac has stated that the masterpiece Spiderman 2 will be nothing like we have ever seen before. Critics all over have been set to say that Spiderman 2 may even secure a game of the year award!
Release Date and Previous Installments
With Spiderman 2 on the rise and about to come out, many fans have been expecting this initial release since the installment of Miles Morales back in 2020. Spiderman 1 released in 2018 on PS4, nearly 5 long years ago after the first in the series considered to be a game that actually reflected new mechanics onto the player. With the devastating installation of The Amazing Spiderman 2 game in 2014, it was originally safe to say Spiderman would never work as a video game. With that being said, Insomniac took it upon themselves to bring the dead video game series back to life. With a complete 17-hour Story Mode campaign and groundbreaking swinging physics, this made fans want even more from the Spiderman franchise in the video game scene. Only 2 years later, Insomniac would release Miles Morales and explore his own story of becoming Spider-Man. Due to the impact that Insomniac had on the Spiderman gaming community, fans have been all around speculating about the initial release of this new game. With the dream of many fans finally being born as the game offers new features that have never been seen before.
New Game Mechanics and Features
With this game being the official next installment in the series, the developers have introduced a variety of new mechanics and features that were not in any previous Spiderman game. To start off, Spider Man 2’s world map will has been increased to be twice as large as the other two previous games. In addition to containing an updated version of the Manhattan area of New York, real life versions of both Queens and Brooklyn will be included for the player to roam around and complete side missions on. Besides the map being larger than other games so far, by far the biggest thing that people have been looking forward to is the black suit. The black suit is a complicated game mechanic that has only been done once correctly before in Web of Shadows. The black suit will function as a changeable mechanic mid-game where Peter will be able to switch between it and his normal suit, giving him an array of new abilities and combos to use. This will also allow the player to fully customize the story to their liking. Alongside this, notorious Spiderman villains will also be returning from the past such as Venom and Kraven the Hunter.
Final Thoughts and Price
Overall, Spiderman 2 seems like a promising Triple-A title by Sony, as this is their next big step within the gaming industry. Looking back on the Spiderman experiences that we had both in 2018 and 2020, it seems that Spiderman 2 will be a good way to end the trilogy. Coming in at a hefty price of $70 USD, Spiderman is a relatively expensive game. Nonetheless, the gameplay should compensate for both the cost and expectations of the fans anticipating the game's release. I highly recommend that you at least check out the video game, if not purchase it and try it out for yourself, Mustangs!
