The Hero of the South

Frieren: Beyond Journey's End is an anime released on September 29, 2023. The story begins with the hero party coming back to town after defeating the long immortal Demon king, where Frieren soon grows after facing the death of her party members. After season 1 successfully ended, studio Madhouse released Frieren’s season 2 on January 16, 2026, where it continues Frieren journeys with Fern and Stark after the First-Class Mage Exam arc.

In season 2, episode 2 of Frieren, Frieren was given a task of clearing a hero’s statue where–to Stark and to our surprise–it wasn’t Himmel, but a hero called “The Hero of the South”. Upon curiosity, questions were asked about Frieren’s knowledge on this mysterious hero, and surprisingly, not only did Frieren know about this hero, their paths have crossed before. The statue shows a man with a pencil mustache, confidently looking towards the vast blue sky of the village. Back in the days, it’s known that the northern region was the region of demons, yet, the Hero of the South was incredibly strong. He freed the Fabel Village of Northern Village from the stronghold of demons. His sacrifices continued to be remembered and appreciated.
Frieren then interrupted the general narrative of The Hero of the South to add in her personal experience. She told Fern and Stark that funnily enough, before the Hero Himmel, the Hero of the South came to recruit her. This is when he confessed to her the crucial truth of his strength. The Hero possesses a future vision power, and he knows as he wanders further to the North to clash against the Sages of the Demon King party that he will soon meet his end. He will be ambushed by all 7 Sages of destruction, but will also manage to take out 3 of them, one being the strongest sage.
Frieren looked uninterested upon hearing his confession and rejected his offer. The Hero of the South only let out a calm smile as he told her he was already aware of her answer, his death sealed. He then told her another young hero will approach her in the future to recruit her, and this hero will forever change her as a person. Once that time came, the Hero of the South asked Frieren to tell that Hero that he, as humanity's strongest hero, will head out first to blaze a path for future Hero Himmel, even if his accomplishment is lost to history.
It’s seen that the Hero of the South stayed true to his words, as he was able to take out 3 out of the 7 Sages of the Demon King’s army despite being ambushed by all of them at the same time. It was also him that had drawn a path for future Hero Himmel to follow, who soon won human freedom back from the Demons. The Hero of the South had proven himself to be a crucial and inspiring character in the season 2 of Frieren: Beyond Journey's End.
