As everyone starts to get slowly acquainted to being back on campus, maybe there’s a new song that you hum to yourself in class or you listen to as you power walk down the Ranchway. Today I interviewed some members of the Mustang Journal as well as students on campus, asking them what their favorite song of August is and why they like that song.
Alex C, member of the Mustang Journal: It’s called “Walk it out!” By Purdy. It has good flow.
Yechan K, President of the Mustang Journal: Something I’ve been listening to for the past few days is, I think it’s called “Here Comes the Conquering Hero”. It’s part of this opera thing called Judas Maccabaeus. It’s by Handel. It’s very good. It’s really epic and if you know the song Rule Britannia, it’s always played at the beginning of that. Handel is like a very famous British musician and his work is used in a lot of marching bands, and it’s very popular to this day. If you listen to his work, you’ll recognize it in popular media, for example, he wrote the Hallelujah Chorus, I’m pretty sure everyone knows that. So yeah, I think Handel is probably the best. I mean, for a British person, he’s alright.
Rex F, Senior: I’m gonna say “Let It Happen” by Tame Impala. Honestly, the instrumental. The fact that it builds up to a really epic ending, just perfect. I love it! I love how it builds up to be something so awesome because it’s one of his longer songs. It’s seven minutes long. So it’s really chill at the beginning and then it builds up to be really epic, that’s one of my favorite bits.
Mya K, Senior: I would say it’s “Angel” by PinkPantherss from the Barbie album. I haven’t seen the movie! But the first time I heard the song I didn’t like it, but then the second time, and the more I started to hear it, I loved it. It’s a good song. It’s catchy, it’s fun, it’s upbeat, I love all her music!
