Alien Stage is a popular animated series created by Vivinos and Qmeng in 2022. The story takes place after aliens were seen to take over Earth. Here, the dynamic between aliens and humans is comparable to owner and pet, as many began investing in human children to send them off to “Anakt Garden”. Anakt Garden is a music specialized facility that trains many children, along with the main cast members, for the “Alien Stage” tournament. Here, this tournament is served mainly for the aliens’ entertainment. The sight of humans competing against each other as they sing their hearts out, with the outcome deciding their life or death, gives the aliens a surge of excitement. Thus, hinting at the popularity of the “Alien Stage” tournament.

The story is told through tournament rounds. Round One tells the story of Mizi and Sua, the two competitors that pitted against each other, exploring their dynamic and history. “My Clematis” illustrates the beauty and passion they both had for singing and for each other. Yet, it ended in a close tie with Sua losing. Her neck was then shot open, killing her on the spot in front of Mizi. We then see Mizi again in Round Five, where she’s now battling Luka, the tournament's old champion. During their song, Luka is seen imitating Sua to mess with Mizi. This results in her physically attacking him, making her violate the show’s code. Fortunately, a rebel team broke in, and Hyuna, another character, was seen to drag Mizi out before she was killed. “All In” was soon released, with Mizi being with the human rebels, her hair now short. The symbolism in Mizi's new short hair at that time was theorized as her becoming a braver individual, breaking out of her shell after Sua’s death. Up to that point, Mizi was painted as a naive, innocent heroine who tragically witnessed the death of her love. However, with “Karma”, Alien Stage’s final episode, the audience was exposed to the real “Mizi”, and her complex relationship with Sua.

“Sweet, adorable, pretty, cute” are words that Mizi grew up listening to. Her owner adored her, being a much more gentle alien than her counterparts. However, it doesn’t take long for Mizi to become aware of her fragile existence being entirely suppressed and overpowered by them. She soon joins the Anakt Garden willingly, as she felt the relief of not being crushed, but rather now having the ability to do that to someone else. Sua was the girl that Mizi soon becomes fond of and often expresses the satisfaction of power she gets over her. It can be seen that Mizi often switches clothes with Sua, and she enjoys treating Sua as something special for her appearance. This implied Mizi finally finding an input for someone in her spot in her mind and that she isn’t as vulnerable as she used to be. With Sua's death now impacting her further and upon seeing Till dying in her arms after the final round, Mizi began seeing Sua taunting her. She taunts her about how many deaths, including hers, happened for Mizi to be currently alive. Thus begins Mizi’s crashout in “Karma”.

Unlike the comic, where Mizi thinks she took Sua’s death as an advantage for her to keep living, “Karma” showed what truly occurs without the character's survivor guilt. Here, it was seen that Sua willingly sacrifices herself, giving Mizi more lines in their song as she holds Mizi dear to her, even more than her life. And Mizi, aware of Sua’s decision to die for her rather than to keep living without Mizi, accepted Sua’s sacrifices. As with Sua dying or not, she will end up hurt, yet one is more mentally bearable for Sua. The final episode of Alien Stage paints an incredibly complex picture of their relationship, as it’s seen they are both toxic in their own ways, yet they mutually accept each other's toxicity, finding comfort and happiness in each other’s presence.
